From the Music Director

I’ve been very busy recently, and I’m delighted to report that we now have a working audio system that allows the choir to sing, and make recordings, from their cars!

We celebrated the feast of All Saints on November 1st with perhaps the first Drive-In Evensong in the entire Anglican Communion, and we were featured in the Boston Globe: see the article here: https://www.bostonglobe.com/2020/11/01/metro/choir-learns-sing-one-once-more/ We owe a tremendous debt of thanks to Tom Vollaro, who not only supervised the purchasing of the equipment, but also put it all together. He has even attended every one of our our events to run the new sound system. Thank you, Tom!

Meanwhile, I’ve been working with our organ builder William Catanesye on tonal finishing, which is the final stage of our long organ project. I am delighted that this project is moving along, and I’m pleased also to report that later this month William and I will give an online presentation about it to the Merrimack Valley chapter of the American Guild of Organists.

As we move into Advent, I am of course looking ahead to Lessons and Carols and Christmas. My plan is for the choir to do a mix of “virtual choir” recordings (where we all appear in your screen in boxes), and recordings made “live” from cars. Many of these recordings will be used for our Christmas music. There is also talk of having perhaps two broadcast Christmas Eve services and one “live” one in the parking lot, but these plans are not finalized yet. Stay tuned!
